MS 9927 comprises correspondence, including between Donald Murray and Donald Friend (mostly photocopies, undated) and Murray and his mother, Margery Brunton, 1917-1985; photographs, bulk 1980s, documents concerning the Hill End property; bank books, 1962-1975; and, newspaper cuttings. There are also family papers which include letters written by Murray's mother, family history, ca. 1893, and photographs, including family portraits and some most likely taken at the time his parents lived in India and Malaysia (2 boxes).

Artist. Donald William Murray studied art under Dattillo Rubbo. In 1947, in partnership with Donald Friend, Murray purchased a cottage at Hill End, New South Wales. Over the next few years the town became established as an artists' colony, with many well known Australian artists travelling there to paint the landscape. In 1957, Donald Friend left Hill End to live overseas. Donald Murray stayed on in the cottage until his death in 1988. From the description of Papers of Donald Murray,...
